Alice Fredenham had spent years hiding her voice.
She loved singing, but her intense fear of performing in front of people kept her away from the spotlight.
So when she decided to audition for Britain’s Got Talent in 2013, she did something unexpected.

She kept it secret from her own family.
At just 28 years old, Alice walked onto the stage looking incredibly nervous.
The judges had no idea what was coming.

For her audition, she chose the classic jazz standard My Funny Valentine.
The music began.
Alice took a breath…

And started singing.
Her voice was soft, deep, intimate, and hauntingly beautiful.
The entire theater became silent.

The nervous woman who had been afraid to perform suddenly sounded like a seasoned jazz singer performing in an old London club.
The judges stared in disbelief.
By the end of the song, the audience erupted into applause.

Simon Cowell was completely captivated.
He compared Alice’s voice to “liquid gold” and said giving her a “Yes” was one of the easiest decisions he had ever made.
All four judges voted “Yes.”

Alice had walked onto the stage terrified that people might laugh at her.
Instead, she left knowing that she had a voice worth hearing.
Her audition became one of the most memorable performances of Britain’s Got Talent and eventually attracted millions of viewers online.
Sometimes, the greatest talent isn’t the talent everyone sees…
It’s the talent someone has been too afraid to show.
